The Agri Fab tow spreader 45-0530 is a strong, well built broadcast spreader with a capacity of 85lb. It only weighs 17 lbs making it easy to manoeuvre into place on the back of the tractor and not too heavy to empty any excess product back into the packet if you don’t use it all. You can cover 14000 square feet on one fill of the hopper.
The spreader is attached to the tractor with a universal hitch connector. The wheels turning move the gears within the enclosed gearbox, it’s heavy duty and protected from product getting inside. It’s easy to adjust to the right settings and once you start spreading it will throw it in an arc around 4-8 feet but it can go up to 10 feet depending on the speed you are travelling. The recommended speed is no more than 3mph.
It’s easy to clean out when you use different products and a lot of people use it to salt their drives. There is also a cover #40883 available to buy if you want one. Check out the pros and cons below.
When you’re pulling a load of garden product to spread on your land you need something that’s strong enough to not only hold the load securely but that can handle being bounced over the ground at the same time. Although there is some assembly required when you buy the Agri Fab tow spreader 45-0530 the new welded frame that is being produced means that there is less assembly to be done and stronger joints.
The hopper that is included on the spreader is made of a strong rustproof plastic which can handle the load easily and is easy to clean out when you are using different products.
Easy to reach mechanism
You can use any type of granulated garden product in this broadcast spreader. There is a simple adjustment control with 10 setting levels which is easily reached from the seat of the tractor.
Move the control lever to the off position before filling with the product you want to spread, move it to a flat surface to fill the hopper, move the adjustment stop to the right setting for the product, leave it closed until you move to the area you want to spread so that it doesn’t drop onto the distribution plate until you’re ready.
Once you start moving over the grass open up the control lever to the adjustment stop. Don’t forget to close it when you’re turning or stopping so that it stops allowing product through.
This Agri Fab spreader has 10 inch pneumatic tires which make for a smooth journey over any type of ground. They have the inflation level on the side of the tires and it’s important to make sure you stick to that. They help bear the load and can cope with a bumpy ride although you need to make sure you don’t go over pot holes as it can tip over.
Problems with assembly
Some people have found that they have had problems with the assembly of the spreader. Part of that problem is due to the fact that there have been missing parts from the pack. This has been solved in the most part by customer services sending out the parts but still an issue. The other part is the fact that they have problems making everything fit together. There is a video on line to help with this though.
Some people have found that when they have loaded up a 40 pound bag of product into the hopper of this garden spreader it fills it up quite a lot and can’t imagine it holding up to 85lb. I’m presuming this is due to the density of the product being used because others have put larger quantities in with no problem.
Difficult to adjust settings
Some customers have found that they had problems with the controls working correctly. They found that the lever wasn’t strong enough to get into the closed position and was still dropping some product. Some customers have found that the lever broke after using a few times. The controls work with a cable attachment rather than a metal rod and maybe this is the issue although it’s not a problem for everyone.
If you’re looking for a cheaper tow spreader the Agri Fab tow spreader 45-0530 might be the best one for you. It can cover a ¼ acre in area, it’s easy to fit to your tractor and it doesn’t take up too much space in your garden shed. It’s manufactured in the US and comes with a 3 year warranty.
